MCB Strategies

MCB Strategies offers writing, editing and consulting services to a diverse group of not-for-profit and

for-profit clients. Company principal Michael Benedict worked in journalism for three decades, including 19 years as an editor at Maclean’s. He also was a director of corporate communications with both the province of Ontario and Canada Post.

In 2005, Michael established MCB Strategies, a boutique communications firm that is a Vendor of Record for writing services for the Ontario government. MCB Strategies is also a VOR for the Ontario Power Authority, the Ontario Centres of Excellence and the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer, among others.

Michael is a member of both the Professional Writers Association of Canada and the Editors’ Association of Canada.

“Michael is one of a rare breed of editors who do more than polish,” says one client. “His great

strength is his ability to take dense and often lifeless material and to make it intelligible and lucid.”

When it comes to writing, he has produced annual reports, major policy papers, entire websites and op-ed newspaper columns, among other products.

In the journalistic and corporate worlds, Michael has dealt with prime ministers, premiers, cabinet ministers and CEOs. He can work both collaboratively and independently, working alone to create the concepts for seven books of archived Maclean’s material, which he then compiled and edited after selling the ideas to Penguin Canada.

To survive as a journalist, Michael had to meet deadlines and understand complex concepts quickly. He still thrives on those challenges—and has never missed a deadline.
